Cardinals rookie infielder Brendan Donovan made the most of his day off in New York City.
After the Cardinals evening game with the New York Mets was postponed due to rainy weather, the recent call-up took advantage of his opportunity while staying in the Big Apple. He and his girlfriend headed to Times Square where he dropped to a knee and asked if she would marry him.
College sweethearts, Donovan and his newly betrothed, Aly Kitchens, attended the University of South Alabama, where Brendan was a star for three years before being drafted in the seventh round by the Cardinals. Aly was a cheerleader for the Jaguars, and now resides in Washington, D.C., working in politics.
Kitchens' Instagram, @aly_in_da_kitchens, where she announced their engagement, is a testament to the ups and downs of minor league life and the challenges players (and girlfriends, and family) face.
